NEWCASTLE'S first game in the Championship will be shown live on BBC1.

The Toon travel to fellow-relegated side West Brom for their season opener on August 8.

It is the first live league football on the Beeb since 1987.

The match is scheduled for 5.30pm on BBC1, while the Geordies' trip to Roy Keane's Ipswich on September 26 will also be screened.

Derby's home tie with QPR on October 24 and Nottingham Forest's clash at Cardiff on November 1 are both on BBC2.

BBC Sport have struck a deal with Sky Sports to show 10 live Championship matches a year and the Carling Cup final on terrestrial TV.

The three-year deal is worth £264million to the Football League.
